Overview
Daqing People’s Hospital – Maternity and Children Care Education Brochures
In 2013, Daqing People’s Hospital Maternity and Children Care Division requested the design of three educational brochures focused on preventing the transmission of infectious diseases from mother to child. These included:
- Prevention of AIDS Transmission from Mother to Child
- Prevention of Hepatitis B Transmission from Mother to Child
- Prevention of Syphilis Transmission from Mother to Child
Each brochure was created in Simplified Chinese and designed to provide clear, accessible information for expectant mothers and healthcare providers. To date, more than 5,000 copies of these brochures have been printed and distributed, raising awareness on these critical health issues.
Traditionally, hospital brochures in China often feature photographs of smiling mothers with their babies, set against a backdrop of hospital buildings. However, for this project, I aimed to break away from this conventional design style. I introduced a more innovative approach by incorporating illustrated characters and vector images to create a unique, engaging visual identity for each brochure.
Color and Design:
- Purple for the AIDS brochure
- Orange for the Hepatitis B brochure
- Blue for the Syphilis brochure
Each brochure features an abstract image of a mother holding a child, presented in a stylized vector design. The AIDS and Hepatitis B brochures are designed as tri-folds, while the Syphilis brochure adopts a double parallel reverse fold to accommodate more content.
To enhance the educational value, color-coded sections were incorporated, with vector diagrams used to illustrate key information. This approach was not only visually appealing but also ensured the content was easy to follow and understand, making the brochures more effective in educating the target audience about disease prevention.
